Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is not the only former athlete that has been accused of fraud. As many fans are aware, Favre is currently the subject of an investigation over his involvement in a scheme that stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from the state of Mississippi’s welfare fund. Earlier this year, Favre was ordered to pay back over $700,000 in ill-gotten funds from the state.
Around the same time that the Favre investigation began, former NBA star Glen “Big Baby” Davis and others were being investigated for defrauding the NBA’s healthcare system. Earlier this week, Davis was sentenced to 40 months in prison.

The news of Davis’ sentence reminded many fans from around the sporting world that Favre, who has been accused of defrauding the state with the most impoverished population in the country, is still walking free.

As seen above, fans are not quite sure why Davis has already been sentence while Favre has yet to be brought up on charges. Or rather, they do have an idea of why, and it is an issue that many feel is one of the parts of America's justice system that needs to be addressed.
Former Mississippi Governor Is Suing Sports Illustrated for Coverage of Brett Favre Welfare Sandal
It seems like there is a new chapter being started in the Favre welfare scandal. Former Mississippi governor Phil Bryant, who allegedly worked with the former Packers' quarterback to defraud the welfare fund, is suing renowned sports publisherSports Illustratedover their coverage of the scandal.
In a report byThe Mississippi Free Press, Ashton and William Pittman wrote:
"Former Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant is accusing Sports Illustrated’s former publisher and a former reporter of defaming him in a new lawsuit over a May 2023 reportaboutMississippi’s sprawling welfare scandaland his connection to retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre.
"The federal lawsuit, which Bryant’s attorney filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi on Thursday, specifically names Sports Illustrated’s former publisher, The Arena Group, and reporter Michael Rosenberg.
"The complaint says that the story, written by Michael Rosenberg, “alleges a conspiracy involving former Governor Phil Bryant” and other players connected to the welfare scandal."
Bryant has yet to be charged with a crime and took issue withSports Illustratedsaying that he worked relentlessly to please the state’s most famous athlete, NFL legend Brett Favre."
While text messages between Favre and the former governor have been made public, there has yet to be evidence revealed that Bryant himself directed welfare funds to Favre.
